Smurfs

Halloween came and went yesterday. These guys came into my work dressed as smurfs – I think they did rather well and I was surprised at how many people I saw who were dressed up. Normally trick or treating and Halloween hasn’t been that popular here but it seem quite a few people were getting into it. I saw them again in a group walking down the main street of town when I was driving home and when I waved to them, they all let out a very loud cheer!

Apparently Sam-hain is pronounced as Sow-in rhyming with the word cow but in Ireland it’s pronounced as saw-win and saw-in in Scotland. Can any of my northern hemisphere readers confirm this?

  1. Ha, fun. I have grown to enjoy Halloween, especially the way it seems to bond people together and invites (candy-giving) neighbourliness. I’m Scottish but I’m 4th generation Canadian, so I’m afraid I can’t help you with that pronunciation.

    1. Oops, third generation. (Not that it matters; enjoy your day.)

  2. Ik ben je even kwijt wat dit onderwerp betreft.

  3. Fun photo, Amy. Halloween is such a big deal here. It’s like the super bowl of holidays for my granddaughters. 🤣

    A clever trio!

  5. Great Halloween photo — the blue faces and white beanies really sell the smurf look.
