Roses

My roses that I planted last year against one of my fences has just started flowering. I’m not sure what the name of this one is but it’s one of 4 that one of my neighbours gave me when he bought the property, he didn’t want them so he gave them to me.

B and I finally got around to using up some spare planks of wood we had lying on the lawn to make a barrier around my vegetable garden. For over a month I’ve been growing pumpkins from seed that I collected last Autumn and when they had grown I had transferred them into the garden along with some other seedlings I bought in town only to have the chickens constantly digging them up. Now they can’t get in. I’m hoping that what’s there now has a better chance.

I don’t know if any of you are wondering about the name of this blog and why I called it what it is. Well….my mum has a twin (my aunt) that I’ve always been very very close too – she has called me Amypie my entire life as an affectionate nickname so there you go.

  1. That will act as a windbreak as well, not just keep the chooks out.

A beautiful rose. I like those with more intense colours

  2. Ik heb heel wat planten gehad maar altijd weinig rozen. Ze wildenhet bij mij nooit zo goed doen.

  3. What a lovely rose, and even more special knowing it came from your neighbour’s garden. I smiled at the story behind your blog name too. The new barrier around the vegetable patch looks like a great idea. Hopefully the pumpkins can now grow in peace without the chickens digging them up!

My roses are blooming now too . I want a yellow one! Yours is a beautiful colour

I call my kids Sweetie Pie, or just add pie to the end of their names too. Lulipie and Poppi pie. It’s a sweet nickname, Amypie 😘

That’s a good solution for now. It should keep the chickens out and give the pumpkins a chance to grow nice, round, and full.
    Have a great week!

  6. I hope the chickens dont find a way in now! Its always a creative time when gardening 🙂

    1. oh they do though, if I leave the door open they come into the house.

Roses are so beautiful. Hopefully your chickens won´t find a way in to your plants. Thank´s for sharing the story behind the name of your blog 😀

  9. I have an unknown rose very similar to yours – it happily grows alongside the greenhouse and is known as Rosa unk var. She doesn’t seem to mind the rather unflattering name 😄

  10. Having a veg garden is handy and a good hobby
