This fisherman sculpture is next to the local Grey River and doesn’t actually have a name but the plaque on the ground says “dedicated to those who help others”. It was carved by James Newby in memory of the last flood the town had in 1988, since then we now have stop banks on either side to prevent any further flooding.

This is fantastic art! Those massive rubber boots!
Saw that years ago and if its the one I recall we noted he is standing wirh his back to the sea (and prevailing wind) – sensibly
That’s a great statue. He’s certainly well decked out for rains and storms
I really like this sculpture and the dedication. Hope the stop banks will continue to prevent floodings in the future.
A fine monument to that brave rescuer. Hopefully, the sea wall does its protective job.
Wishing you a wonderful week.
Quite a wonderful tribute.
Very nice. He looks quite traditional.
Thanks for all your lovely comments on my blog, Amy.
Experiencing New Zealand is definitely on my “bucket list” 🙂
A good looking fisherman. Glad you don’t have to worry about flooding anymore.

He was ready for a downpour! A great statue and tribute to people ini a vital occupation — an uncomfortable and dangerous one!
