Do those of you in other countries also have these scooters in various places around your town/city? We saw these on most corners when we were in Auckland.
Here, they are pretty dangerous at times. Not many people wear helmets, like they are recommended and i regularly read news articles about people have been seriously hurt and killed. I’m not sure how they are used but I think you use a credit card to pay for the usage.
Winter seems to have finally hit this week. This is my outside deck with a layer of ice covering it and the backyard. Places around the country like Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington have had snow dumps and flurries. Where I am in Greymouth, we have had -8 temperatures at night but the only places we get snow here are on some of the mountains. Our fireplace has been getting used ALOT but now that it’s August we are hoping that Spring shows itself come September.

I live in Florida and they don’t have them in my town, but they have them in Tampa.
Sorry to see your new blog is not blogger. I often have trouble with these wordpress blogs. So fingers crossed this won’t be one of them. We have lots of scooters here in my state of Ohio. I’m not sure if all states in the US have them or not, as they’re regulated differently in each state and County. I’ve not read of many accidents with them here. They seem to primarily be used for short travel, you leave them and they either collected or used by another person after you. I’ll have to notice if most wear helmets or not. I’ve not noticed that.

It’s the same here with the scooters everywhere (in summer). Not always as neatly parked as in your photo, either!! Never see anyone wearing a helmet, and often two young people on the same one, even though that is forbidden – and often in places where there should be no vehicles at all, only pedestrians. (Sigh!)
When I was staying in Limoges there was one at least who went on the local motorway!! someone managed to film the fool….
There was a time when those scooters were everywhere and people just left them in the strangest places. That seems to have calmed down now. I don’t see as many of them as before.
I see people using them but I’m not sure if they’re rented or owned.

I see mostly kids riding ebikes. It’s a huge problem/lots of injuries.
There are dozens of these scooters around town. Sometimes close to the traffic areas. I do wonder if they are safe w/o helmets.
We have a lot of bikes. Don’t think I’ve seen many (if any) scooters.
In Malaysia, we’d probably melt before we froze on a scooter ride! Helmets are compulsory here for motorbikes, but I can see how risky it gets when people skip them. Your fireplace stories make me wish we had “winter mode” instead of endless summer.
There are bikes here. You pay about 1 euro an hour. Nothing. A good way to get around here

Worth a Thousand Words
You know I’m not certain we have the scooters here for rental but there are so many on the streets. I’ve been hearing a lot about how many children in particular end up in hospital with serious injuries.
Yep, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA has them. When they first came out there were a lot of injuries because people were stupid. Now that they have been out for years, there is not so much stupidity.
I’ve seen t hem in our travels — here in Eugene Oregon we have bikes around like that. But same thing about people not wearing helmets. I think we have a law that kids have to, (should be everybody, all the emergency ward personnel say so!)
